RWANDA'S RECKONING: WHERE VICTIMS MEET THE PERPETRATORS (Audio)
Saturday May 03, 2025
Saturday May 03, 2025
💠This unflinching podcast - 'Rwanda's Reckoning', plunges into the heart-wrenching and challenging encounters between survivors and perpetrators of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide against the Tutsis, a 100-day massacre from April 7 to July 19 that claimed up to one-million lives. These interviews, with two of the victims and two of the perpetrators, deliver raw testimonials of unimaginable loss, searing pain, and the complex journey toward forgiveness. We spotlight voices like Albert Rutinkanga, founder of a reconciliation village uniting victims and perpetrators, who lost 70 family members during the genocide, yet embraced a mission to forgive and foster critical thinking. Albert talks about cultivating empathy, critical thinking and personal responsibility in Kayonza’s young people. Through unfiltered conversations, 'Rwanda's Reckoning' reveals the courage to confront a brutal past, the agony of reliving trauma, and the fragile hope of healing in a nation forever marked by violence. More than a historical recounting, this podcast is a testament to the human spirit’s resilience and a uniquely creative approach to stopping a cycle of bloodshed. 💠Margaret Murekatete a survivor who takes part in the village said, “Before joining, I believed that all Hutus do not deserve to live,” she says. “Now we give each other livestock gifts. When an animal gives birth, the newborn is given to a member of our initiative, without considering that he or she is Hutu or Tutsi.” 💠PLEASE DONATE TO THIS HOLY AND WORTHWHILE INITIATIVE AT: 👉 HTTPS://PEACEDU.ORG/DONATE 💠(Produced with gratitude to Chris Sandy for his editorial expertise in overcoming the technical challenges of this profoundly difficult project.)

Welcome to 'The Avrum Rosensweig Show', and our series, 'PARSHA & PROSE' with RABBI SHLOMO GEMARA, where we dive into the timeless wisdom of the Torah, weaving its teachings with insights from literature, culture, and human experience. In this episode, we explore the Torah portion Tazria-Metzora (Leviticus 12:1–15:33) through the lens of William Shakespeare’s King Lear. At first glance, these texts seem worlds apart—one a sacred exploration of ritual purity and affliction, the other a tragic drama of betrayal and redemption. Yet, both grapple with profound questions about human vulnerability, isolation, and the search for meaning amidst suffering. AM YISRAEL CHAI!

PARSHA & PROSE: TORAH PORTION, SHMINI & 'MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING'
Wednesday Apr 23, 2025
Wednesday Apr 23, 2025
Please, view/listen to this very compelling episode of PARSHA & PROSE with RABBI SHLOMO GEMARA. Here you will learn how Rabbi Gemara ties the Torah portion Shmini (Leviticus 9:1–11:47), with its narrative of the Tabernacle’s inauguration, the tragic deaths of Nadav and Avihu, and the laws of kashrut, into Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning, which explores finding purpose in life’s highs and lows. You will hear how in Shmini, the divine fire that consumes the offerings (Leviticus 9:24) reflects moments of transcendent meaning, akin to Frankl’s belief that purpose can emerge in awe-inspiring experiences. Yet, the sudden loss of Aaron’s sons (Leviticus 10:1–3), met with Aaron’s silent resilience, mirrors Frankl’s insight that “suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning, such as the meaning of a sacrifice.” The kashrut laws (Leviticus 11) further align with Frankl’s view of meaning as personal and specific, as they guide Israel to holiness through deliberate choices. Through Shmini, we see that meaning arises not only in joy and obedience but also in navigating tragedy and discipline, echoing Frankl’s call to choose one’s attitude and purpose in every circumstance. This is a most fascinating episode of PARSHA AND PROSE. Enjoy, comment and subscribe.

This episode contains descriptions of sexual violence, physical abuse, and trauma. It is not suitable for children. But it is necessary listening — for anyone who wants to understand what it means to survive… and to speak out. Today, you’ll hear the voice of a woman who refused to stay silent — even when the world around her demanded it. 💠Rivky Stein grew up in an ultra-religious Jewish community in New York. Her early life was shaped by deep control, fear, and silence — from the foster care system, to an abusive father, and eventually, into a marriage that would become a prison. 💠In her own words, she walks us through the silence of the rabbis whom she asked for help, and what it meant to be “owned” by someone who claimed her body, her mind, and her freedom. But Rivky isn’t here to be pitied — she’s here to be heard. And to call others — women who have suffered, women who are still silent — to step into their own power. 💠This is not an easy conversation. But it is an essential one. Rivky Stein is more than a survivor. She’s a force — a mother, an advocate, and a woman who turned pain into purpose. Her story is heartbreaking, yes. But it’s also a call: to listen more deeply, to believe survivors, and to stand with those still trying to break free. If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, please know — there is help. You are not alone. We’ve included resources in the episode description. To Rivky — and to every person still fighting for their voice — we hear you. We believe you. And we stand with you. 💠To be in touch with Rivky, email: victimshaveavoice1@gmail.com. To contribute to Rivky's legal fight and to assist others please contribute to: 👉 https://gofund.me/7c145ac2 .
